MID-HUDSON – The Democratic majority caucus of the Westchester County Board of Legislators has condemned the shooting deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by ICE agents in Minneapolis.
In a joint statement, the lawmakers said, “This pattern of violence by federal authorities in our communities cannot continue. The use of lethal force in these operations is unacceptable and a serious breach of public trust.” The Westchester officials said, “Americans deserve to be protected, not targeted, by their own government.”
Genesis Ramos, the Democratic caucus leader of the Orange County Legislature, said people must speak out against the violence.
“Silence is you being complicit. This is really a moment of moral clarity. You either want to be on the right side of history, or you don’t,” she said. “Unfortunately, what has happened is that we are living in a time where reality has become really distorted.”
Ramos said what you see with your own eyes, referring to witness video of ICE agents killing Pretti, “should not be normalized.”
Meanwhile, Democratic State Senator James Skoufis said the shootings are “an indisputable abuse of power that bears no resemblance to (ICE’s) stated mission.”
He said federal leaders “must act or be harshly judged.”
