MID-HUDSON – Traffic ground to a halt Sunday when Old Man Winter blasted the region with a record setting snowfall.
Amounts ranged as high as 14 inches in Carmel, to 17 inches in Chatham, and close to two feet in the Town of Wallkill.
With a statewide travel ban in New York on Sunday, only essential services were open. Most, if not all schools, are closed today.
Aside from the snow and sleet, whiteout conditions persisted throughout the day on Sunday with wind gusts as high as 30 mph.
No relief is in site since forecasters say temperatures will remain below freezing throughout the next several days.
Snow melt will be minimal at best through the week, and the icy conditions from the sleet will keep roads, driveways and walkways icy.
