ALBANY – With well over a foot of snow dumped on the region on Sunday, the weather forecast for Monday from the National Weather Service in Binghamton says there is a chance of snow showers, mainly before 1 p.m., with areas of blowing snow after noon, and it will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 22.
On Sunday, Governor Hochul appealed to employers to encourage their workers to work from home so that the roads can be cleared. In many municipalities, vehicle parked on streets were towed.
A state of emergency was declared meaning only essential vehicles were allowed on roads.
Hudson Valley and Catskills municipalities urged everyone to stay off road so plows could make their way.
“You can be off the roads; that is the best advice. Stay off the roads. They’re going to be slick, icy, snow-covered. So (Monday’s) commute, for those who are working, we encourage employers to allow their workers, if possible, to work remotely,” the governor said. “We know there are many of you who cannot, and I again, I thank our nurses and hospital personnel.”
She said that you can prevent a cardiac event while shoveling snow by following commonsense advice.
“Neighbors of mine have had heart attacks from shoveling too much snow,” the governor said. Her advice is to “take multiple smaller bites and lift smaller amounts of snow. Toss it aside, but do not try to go for the big, massive shovel full of snow because, regardless of your health, this could cause a heart attack.”
