CARMEL- County Executive Kevin Byrne has declared a State of Emergency for Putnam County effective 12:01 a.m. Sunday due to the pending storm.
Byrne told a noon-time news conference at his Carmel office that the decree allows the county to “obtain emergency resources as needed while providing additional support for clearing of roads and emergency services for the safety of residents.”
Byrne urged the public to “stay off the roads during the duration of the storm allowing county, town and village highway crews, police, and fire personnel and other essential service providers to do their jobs.”
Byrne’s advice was to the point: “Stay warm; stay home and stay safe!”
As the massive storm approaches the Hudson Valley, stores and shops are being deluged with customers.
At the Tops Market in Carmel Saturday morning, long lines of shoppers were waiting to be checked out.
Checker Marianne said the morning resembled the “days before Christmas and Thanksgiving rolled into one. It’s been crazy. People are buying as though they will be snowed in for a month.”
