NEWBURGH – Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson (D, Newburgh) is partnering with the City of Newburgh Police Department to host a gun buyback from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Newburgh Activity Center, located at 401 Washington Street.
“There are too many guns on the streets,” Jacobson said. “Gun buybacks are one way I can partner with law enforcement to get guns off the streets and make our communities safer.”
This is an amnesty program, which means no questions will be asked and no identification is required. Gun owners may exchange their firearms for retail gift cards in the following amounts:
- Assault Weapons – $400 each, no limit
- Handguns – $300 each, limit 5 per person
- Rifles and Shotguns – $200 each, limit 2 per person
- Antique and Non-working Firearms – $50 each, limit 2 per person
Guns must be unloaded and placed in a plastic or paper bag. If they’re being transported in a vehicle, all guns must be unloaded and in the trunk of the vehicle.
Active or retired law enforcement officers, as well as licensed gun dealers, are not eligible to participate in the program.
