ESOPUS – A 63-year-old Port Ewen woman was killed when her 2009 Smart car crossed into the opposite lane of travel on Route 9W in the Town of Esopus Wednesday morning and struck a Volkswagen Tiguan head-on, State Police said Thursday.
Jennifer Burke was pronounced dead at the scene of the 6:15 a.m. accident, police said.
Trooper said her Smart car was driving northbound when, for unknown reasons, it crossed into the southbound lane of travel and struck the VW.
That driver, a 49-year-old West Park man, was transported to Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie with non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation is continuing and police ask anyone who may have witnessed it to call the Highland Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 845-344-5300.
