MAHOPAC – A group calling itself Peoples Immigrant Coalition which has been protesting ICE agents removing both undocumented and documented individuals from streets in the greater Brewster-Carmel area has called on the Mahopac Board of Education to demand one if its members resign immediately for serving as an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent.

A spokesperson for the group charged that Mahopac School Board member Christopher Harrigan has been captured on video multiple times since August 2025 and most recently last week, acting as an agent of ICE-ERO (Immigration and Customs Enforcement – Enforcement and Removal Operations), arresting individuals in the neighboring towns of Brewster and Carmel. This violation of human and constitutional rights is in direct conflict with the School Board’s mission to ensure the safety and education of all students.”

The group believes that school trustees should “not have access to student records. ICE-ERO has disregarded the law, kidnapping people without warrants, violently attacking without cause, and imprisoning without due process. Having a school board member participate in these violations jeopardizes the confidentiality and trust policy of any school system, thereby destroying a student’s faith in the safety and protection that an educational system provides.”

Peoples’ Immigrant Coalition has asked residents to attend tonight’s Board of Education meeting demanding Harrigan’s resignation.

The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Mahopac Falls Elementary School Auditorium.

An email sent to the Board of Education president seeking comment was not answered.
