MONTICELLO- Sullivan County has received $3 million in state grant funding to upgrade critical emergency communications equipment used by first responders, including radio system components, repeaters and antenna systems.

The funding is part of more than $38 million awarded statewide through New York’s Statewide Interoperable Communications Grant (SICG) program, which supports improvements to emergency communications for police, fire and emergency medical services.  In total, 17 counties and New York City received awards.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the funding, emphasizing the importance of reliable communication during emergencies and disasters.  The grants are designed to help local governments strengthen radio infrastructure so first responders can communicate clearly with one another when it matters most.

The program is administered by the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services.  Grant funds may be used to install or repair radio equipment, improve system reliability and resiliency, and address gaps in communications coverage.

The $3 million award will help modernize Sullivan County’s radio system, improving coverage and reliability for emergency responders across the county and enhancing public safety for residents and visitors alike.
