Claudia Melle

PUTNAM VALLEY- Claudia Melle lived and breathed the Putnam Valley School District in the 1980s and 1990s serving as an advocate for the construction of the Putnam Valley High School.

Melle passed away last month and a memorial prayer service was held in her hometown of Cary, North Carolina Saturday.

Long time Putnam Valley educator Sam Oliverio remembered Melle as a “wonderful woman whose legacy remains to this day. Claudia guided her three wonderful children, Jennifer, Christopher and Andrew, through their early years and was always their greatest advocate. I knew Claudia both through the school and through community events. Claudia was everyone’s friend and never said a harsh word about anyone she met.”

Melle relocated from Putnam County to North Carolina in 2005.

Oliverio, who currently serves as a member of the Putnam Valley Board of Education, recalled how Melle was a “strong advocate to build a new high school in those heady days of long debates and countless meetings. When she moved, having seen her dream fulfilled with the opening of Putnam Valley High School in September of 2000, her focus in life was her children and grandchildren.”

Oliverio sent his condolences to the entire Melle family while sending a message to his late friend: “Claudia you were very much missed when you left our ‘Valley’ and the world itself is now diminished by your passing.”
