PEEKSKILL- Putnam’s favorite son, former Governor George Pataki, has endorsed his former lieutenant governor Betsy McCaughey, who is running on the GOP ticket for governor of Connecticut.

McCaughey, 77 served with the Garrison resident during his first term as New York’s chief executive in the early 1990s.

Pataki described McCaughey Friday as being “bright who knows the issues and delves into them in great detail. I think she has the ability to be a very good governor.”

Pataki and McCaughey’s relationship strained over the course of their first term. As a result Pataki chose a different running mate in 1997 and McCaughey ran against her former boss as governor on the Democratic line and lost.

Pataki admitted they had differences: “That’s inherent in the relationship between governor and lieutenant governor when you have two people who both have strong opinions or strong ideas. I have nothing but very positive feelings towards her,” he said.

McCaughey, who grew up in Milford and Westport, hopes to challenge Democratic Governor Ned Lamont in November if she is victorious in a Republican Primary this summer against two opponents.
