Putnam’s snow plows get names

CARMEL- Snow removal equipment owned by Putnam County has been named this winter thanks to the county’s school children.

The Department of Public Works conducted a snowplow naming contest, and children used their creativity in naming the big rigs.

Among the winners were Mahopac School District students Cassandra Dever and Maggie Ford from Lakeview Elementary School, whose joint entry, “Frosty,” was selected as a winning name, as well as Fulmar Road Elementary School student Adam Shala, who earned honors for his entry, “Mr. 67.”

In total, four snowplows were emblazoned with the contest’s winning names. In addition to the Mahopac students, winners were crowned at the Putnam Valley Elementary School and John F. Kennedy Elementary School in Brewster where winning entries included “White Tiger” and “Darth Blader.”

County Executive Kevin Byrne described the contest as a “a fun and meaningful way to connect with students and celebrate their imagination and creativity while also highlighting the incredible work done every day by our Department of Public Works.”
