ALBANY – Putnam, Sullivan and Ulster County emergency responders will be experiencing improved communications thanks to a Statewide Interoperable Communications Grant program that supports local governments’ efforts to build and repair radio towers allowing them to communicate with other emergency responders during disasters and emergencies.
Governor Kathy Hochul Thursday announced that $38 million in state funding had been awarded to 17 counties across the state including the three in the Hudson Valley.
“Saving a life can come down to one call, and our first responders need to have the most reliable emergency communications systems to help their fellow New Yorkers during their most critical moments,” she said. “Investing in emergency response to enhance first responder readiness is a matter of life and death.”
With its $3 million grant, Putnam County will enhance regional interoperability by adding communication infrastructures to strengthen communication with neighboring counties and agencies.
Sullivan County received $2 million to upgrade radio system components, including repeaters, and antennae systems while Ulster County will use its $3 million grant to create additional links that interconnect interoperability partner systems to expand sharing national interoperability resources across county borders.
