GARDINER – The Wallkill Valley Land Trust has completed a conservation easement that will protect 108 acres of land on the Shawangunk Ridge that will permanently safeguard cliffs, forests, wetlands, and scenic views.

Land Trust Executive Director Christie DeBoer said the easement establishes forest conservation areas, protects wildlife habitat, scenic views, and recreational areas, including a section of the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail that passes through the eastern portion of the land.

“This is a remarkable project that we are protecting decades of private stewardship and cooperation. These landowners made conservation-minded decisions long before easements were common, and together with partners like Mohonk Preserve and the Shawangunk Conservancy, we were able to make that vision permanent,” she said.

The Wallkill Valley Land Trust now holds over 3,000 acres of permanently protected land.
