PAWLING – Fifty-two-year-old Annette Strehle, reported to be a nurse at Green Chimneys, has been charged with a pair of misdemeanors after allegedly attacking anti-ICE protesters in Pawling over the weekend. Strehle, a resident of Circle Drive in Pawling, was charged with two counts of misdemeanor criminal mischief after protesters said she physically attacked them while they were holding a peaceful protest.
Saturday’s event allegedly consisted of seven protesters, all over the age of 70, who were holding a roadside protest of the ICE-involved shooting, witnessed by passing motorists. Also, it drew a response from Assemblyman Anil Beephan (R-Hopewell Junction).
According to one of the alleged victims, Strehle pulled over near the protest and began yelling at the protesters, asking people to remember Renee Good, who was shot by ICE agents in Minnesota on January 7, 2026.
One victim said Strehle exited her vehicle, grabbed a protester’s sign, and tore it up. Another elderly woman said Strehle then approached her, punched her in the chest, knocking her down, then grabbed the woman’s phone and threw it, before allegedly attacking another 80-year-old protester, including destroying her glasses and throwing her phone.
Strehle fled the scene, but the alleged victims had captured her license plate number. Responding New York State Troopers took complaints from the victims and tracked Strehle to her residence, where they arrested her on the two misdemeanor charges.
Assemblyman Anil Beephan was made aware of the violence and immediately issued a statement that said in part, “I don’t care which side of the aisle you stand on – our residents have an absolute right to peacefully demonstrate and voice their concerns in a public setting. That is fundamental to who we are and to our democracy.”
