RED HOOK – An estimated 300 people gathered in the village square at noon Saturday to protest President Trump’s immigration policies and the recent fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis.

“We are outraged about the latest killing,” said Jill Horn, a Rhinebeck resident and protest organizer for Hudson Valley Strong Indivisible. “And we’re here to demand justice.”

Carrying many signs with different messages, protestors chanted their dislike of the Trump administration as cars passed through the square honking or patiently working their way through town.

Andy Mirer, a part-time Red Hook resident, attended the rally to support immigrants and their positive role in American society. “It’s infuriates me that people will pretend that immigration is anything but a
benefit to this country. Immigrants take jobs that people don’t take that are born here,” he said. “ They start businesses, they fuel economic activity. So it’s complete bullshit to say they are damaging the economy, let alone establish an infrastructure of storm troopers to try and remove them and to murder people who defend them.”
