NEWBURGH- The City of Newburgh has been awarded more than $10 million in state funding from Governor Kathy Hochul to support housing development, infrastructure upgrades, and redevelopment of the city’s Hudson River waterfront.
The largest award, $6.89 million from the New York State Pro-Housing Supply Fund, will fund water, sewer, and roadway improvements along the Liberty Street corridor. The upgrades are intended to support construction of three mixed-income, mixed-use developments totaling more than 200 new housing units.
The city also received $2 million to advance Newburgh Landing, a planned deep-water port on the Hudson River that is expected to break ground later this year. The state funding builds on a $4 million federal grant secured by Congressman Pat Ryan. Once complete, the port is expected to support maritime commerce, tourism, recreation, and potential future passenger service.
An additional $2 million will support construction of a mixed-use development next to Washington’s Headquarters. The project will activate a long-vacant parcel of land and deliver 145 housing units along with 10,000 square feet of commercial space in the Liberty Street area.
City officials said the funding will help accelerate housing production, improve infrastructure capacity, and advance long-planned waterfront redevelopment projects.
