NEW YORK – Governor Kathy Hochul says she will stand up for your constitutional rights if they were violated by ICE. That was her reaction in the wake of the killing of Renee Nicole Goode, who was a US citizen and mother. She was killed by an ICE agent in Minneapolis on Wednesday.
“I am so sickened as a mom that there’s a child who woke up yesterday, a six-year-old who had a loving mother and goes to bed, an orphan right in this country. An American. And I’m telling you, I’m going to stand up and defend rights, at least what I can do in New York,” she said. “And next week, when I’m announcing my state of the state address, I am putting in language that I want to get through that says that New Yorkers who’ve had their constitutional rights denied by an Ice agent, whether you’re a member of the media that was beaten up in New York City a couple of weeks ago, or someone whose business has been ransacked before the Ice agents come in and make them lose money, or someone who’s whose mother is murdered, that they would have a way to get recourse against those individuals, she said. “And let’s start holding these people accountable.”
