Kent Police Chief Kevin Owens said the unidentified driver of the big rig managed to get out of the wreckage prior to the arrival of emergency personnel. He was taken to Putnam Hospital Center and treated in the emergency room for non-life-threatening injuries.
Kent Fire Chief Brennon Frowd said when manpower arrived, crews contained the leaking fuel while the specially trained HazMat team assisted with mitigation and cleanup.
Route 301 in the vicinity of the Sedgewood Club in Kent Cliffs was closed to traffic for several hours until the oil was removed, the truck righted and towed away and the road cleaned of slippery oil residue.
