CROTON FALLS – A man was killed early Monday when struck by a car while walking along Route 684 just south of the Putnam-Westchester County border.
State Police said the victim was in the left lane around 2 a.m. when struck by a southbound vehicle north of the Hardscrabble Road interchange in Croton Falls.
Croton Falls firefighters, members of the North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps and a Putnam paramedic rushed to the scene but the victim could not be saved.
State Police Public Information Officer Trooper Krystal Paolicelli said the victim’s name was being withheld pending notification of relatives.
Southbound Route 684 resembled a parking lot for most of the morning since troopers closed the interstate’s three lanes for several hours until accident reconstruction was completed.
Trooper Paolicelli has asked anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact the New York State Police Somers Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 914-742-6057.
The death of a pedestrian on an area highway was the second in days. A woman was killed when struck by a car while walking along the Palisades Parkway in Rockland County during the holidays.
