BEACON – As the first weekend of 2026 came to a close Sunday, residents and local officials gathered the Memorial Hall on Main Street for the annual swearing-in ceremonies of the city council and a pair of Dutchess County legislators.

“I just want to say thank you for your community service,” said Mayor Lee Kyriacou, during his remarks prior to the swearing ceremonies.

“I’ve been doing this over the course of 30 plus years, and I’ve met a dozen colleagues and in the mayor’s chair, and in every case it was about community service. And I just ask that we always try to remember that, that we respect one another and that we collaborate, because as I said, this a role where we serve our community.”

The swearing-in included those of Yvette Valdés Smith, a County Legislator from District 16, and Molly Rhodes, a County Legislator from District 18.

And the entire city council was sworn in. Lastar Gorton, Council Member Ward 1, Zack Smith, Council Member Ward 2, Sergei Krasikov, Council Member Ward 3, Carolyn Glauda, Council Member Ward 4, Amber Grant, Council Member At Large and Paloma Wake, Council Member At Large all took their oath to start governance in 2026.
