MIDDLETOWN – The City of Middletown’s elected officials took their oaths of office Friday night before a packed common council chamber.
Congressman Pat Ryan, who administered the oaths of office to Mayor Joseph DeStefano, common Council President Miguel Rodrigues and the council members, called them true patriots for the work they are doing for the city and its residents.
DeStefano, who is one of the longest serving mayors in Orange County, noted that public service is not a solo effort.
“Good government is built on fiscal responsibility, stable taxes, strong public services and a constant focus on improving the quality of life for those who call Middletown home,” he said. “We have made real progress together, but important work remains. I remain committed to listening, to transparency, to accountability, to working collaboratively with the common council, my partners in government, and most importantly, the residents of the city.”
State Senator James Skoufis said the public officials in Middletown, led by DeStefano, have poured their “incredible energy, blood, sweat, tears into making good things happen in the city.”
