PUTNAM VALLEY – A deputy sheriff patrolling along the Taconic State Parkway in Putnam Valley on New Years Eve was alerted by his vehicle’s license plate reader that an Acura being followed contained improper license plates.
Sheriff Brian Hess said the officer stopped the car and an investigation determined the driver Ryan Knapp, 37, of Ossining, was operating his vehicle with plates belonging to a Chevrolet Tahoe.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a quantity of heroin.
Knapp was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in addition to aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and operating a vehicle with improper license plates.
He was processed at the sheriff’s department in Carmel; however, due to state bail reform, Knapp was issued an appearance ticket and released to appear in Putnam Valley Court at a later date.
The vehicle was towed from the scene.
