CARMEL- The historic Putnam Courthouse was filled to the rafters on New Year’s Eve when three members of the Putnam Legislature were administered their oaths of office.
Legislator Erin Lee Crowley of Mahopac took her oath presented by Alana Sweeny, wife of the late State Appellate Court Justice John Sweeny who recently passed away.
Two new legislators were also sworn into office—Jake D’Angelo of Carmel who at 24 years old is Putnam’s youngest elected official and Thomas Regan of Brewster. D’Angelo succeeds Legislator Greg Ellner while Regan follows nine year legislator veteran Paul Jonke.
All three are Republicans.
Sheriff Brian Hess was scheduled to have taken his oath. The county’s chief lawman who succeeded the late Kevin McConville who passed away earlier this year, was unable to attend because of illness.
Flu and influenza is widespread throughout Putnam County. As a matter of fact the NYS Health Department reports Putnam has the highest rate of flu per capita of any county in the entire state.
