KINGSTON – Taylor John Bruck has served as the acting Ulster County clerk since August 2024 following the retirement of the late Nina Postupack.
Bruck was officially sworn in by Congressman Pat Ryan Tuesday as county clerk after winning an election last month to officially fill that position.
During his acceptance speech, Bruck said his father named him after Lawrence Taylor, the New York Giants Hall of Fame linebacker, and he plans on using his tenacity to do his job.
“Defending has been the theme of the whole game,” said Bruck.
“This is what we do, whether it’s defending democracy or defending the records from humidity, theft and things like that.”
And he also praised the late Postupack for helping him understand what public service is all about.
“She was really able to really distill the job down to the most basic and simple version of public service in general,” he said. “She used to tell me, Taylor, just help people. Every other part of the job can be learned.”
And he praised his current staff for doing what Postupack told him what’s necessary in the clerk’s office, from helping in the DMV office to maintaining important records, such as property records and deeds.
“It’s really so simple,” he said,” but of think of a society without it, it almost doesn’t make sense, you have anarchy.”
