PURDYS – A late night fire Monday gutted a wood-frame home in the Purdys section of North Salem despite the efforts of firefighters from Putnam and Northern Westchester.

The blaze was reported at 10:30 p.m. when 911 calls sent Croton Falls firefighters to Old Schoolhouse Road for a report of a fire with occupants trapped inside.

Croton Falls personnel arrived minutes later, confirmed a working fire and requested mutual aid from the Brewster, Mahopac, Bedford Hills, South Salem, Somers and Goldens Bridge fire departments in addition to the North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps along with Putnam and Westchester paramedics.

Crews entered the burning building and conducted a search, but according to Chief Jeff Daday, all of the occupants had safely evacuated prior to the arrival of firefighters.

The home suffered heavy damage.

No injuries were reported to firefighting personnel who remained at the scene for several hours.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
