WARWICK – The Town of Warwick is going to rebuild its 40-year-old Wickham Wastewater Treatment Plant with an $8 million state grant.

Town Supervisor Jesse Dwyer said it is no longer fiscally responsible to repair the current facility, especially as demand has increased with the conversion of the former Mid-Orange Correctional Facility to the Warwick Tech Park.

“The tech park has several breweries. It has some of the largest indoor marijuana growing facilities in the nation and they require a lot of water, and the breweries obviously require a lot of wastewater treatment, and that has taxed the sewer to new levels,” he said.

The total cost of the project is nearly $16 million with the remainder of the cost coming from interest-free financing from the state.
