BREWSTER- Christephen Ayemou has taken charge of his learning while making an impact half way around the globe through the Brewster School District’s 2025-26 Senior Success Project.

The upperclassman traveled to Africa to teach English.

Program coordinators Kayla Corvino and Andrea Perdicho explained “through his experience, Ayemou built meaningful connections across cultures, supported students in another country, and represented Putnam County on a global stage.”

Reflecting on the experience Christephen noted: ¨Having an open mind allows opportunities to find you, even when you don’t yet know how they will impact your future. It wasn’t until I reflected on the experience through the project that I realized how many skills I was using and how much I had grown.”

The Senior Success Project allows students to design and carry out their own projects, choose meaningful internships, and volunteer with local community organizations that reflect their passions and goals.

Students have partnered with more than a dozen local organizations to explore career paths and apply the skills they’ve learned in school in real-world settings. From coaching youth sports and mentoring younger students to leading community initiatives, students take full ownership of their projects and hold themselves accountable for their success.

“The Senior Success Project is all about empowering students to take ownership of their learning,” said Corvino who added: “They set goals, take initiative, and demonstrate leadership in ways that are both meaningful to them and valuable to the community.”
