POUGHKEEPSIE – The body of a man was discovered by City of Poughkeepsie firefighters when they responded to an apartment fire on Mill Street on Saturday afternoon.  The fire, reported at around 2:30 pm, was in the rear apartment of a multi-family building at 298 Mill Street, adjacent to the municipal parking lot.

Firefighters discovered the body after making their way to the apartment’s kitchen.

A woman at the scene identified the victim as her friend, Joe.

The body was released to the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination.  Police and fire personnel are also investigating the cause and origin of the blaze.

The tenants in the other apartments were uninjured and will be able to return to their dwellings.
