PUTNAM COUNTY- For the initial time in 28 years, Putnam’s holiday blood drive has been cancelled today.

On Friday Blood Drive coordinator Denis Hanrahan explained:  “We made it through the COVID epidemic, flu season, even power interruptions yet Old Man Winter has put the kibosh on this year’s event.”

Hanrahan chatted with officials of the New York Blood Center late yesterday and both parties decided to cancel due to the excessive snow predictions.”

Hanrahan said his team would reschedule the drive when possible.

The Christmas Blood Drive and blood drive around Independence Day are always well attended, with dozens of pints of blood donated to assist the New York Blood Bank.  As a matter of fact, Putnam residents have donated more than 4,000 pints of blood as well as sponsoring three bone marrow registry drives with one known match during the past quarter century.
