HUDSON VALLEY- New Yorkers are being urged to use caution as a winter storm is expected to bring snow and icy conditions across much of the state beginning Friday and continuing into Saturday morning.
Forecasts call for four to six inches of snow throughout the Catskills and Hudson Valley, where some areas could see up to eight inches. Western New York and the Finger Lakes region may experience a wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain, creating slick and potentially hazardous travel conditions.
With the Christmas holiday on Thursday, residents planning to travel on Friday are encouraged to consider adjusting their plans, allow extra travel time and make sure vehicles are equipped with winter safety supplies.
Governor Kathy Hochul echoed the call for caution, urging residents to monitor local forecasts and sign up for weather and emergency alerts. State officials also noted that a Code Blue is automatically in effect when temperatures or wind chills fall below 32 degrees, requiring local social services districts to ensure shelter is available for people experiencing homelessness. Residents are reminded to take precautions against cold-related dangers such as frostbite, hypothermia and carbon monoxide poisoning, and to use extra care when driving in winter conditions.
