CARMEL – Putnam County’s three-term legislator Chairwoman Amy Sayegh’s announcement that she will not be seeking reelection next November has opened the flood gates with two GOP candidates indicating their desire to succeed the Mahopac resident on the nine-member governing body.

Carmel Deputy Supervisor and Councilman Frank Lombardi Monday tossed his hat into the ring joining Mahopac Board of Education Trustee Tanner McCracken for the District No. 8 race.

Lombardi has lived in Mahopac for some 23 years, serving for 14 years on the Carmel Town Board. He was also legal counsel to former State Senator Terrence Murphy.

McCracken officially announced his run last week charging that “property taxes are crushing families. The cost of living is out of control. Seniors deserve to be able to afford to stay and live here, and young families deserve a future here.”

McCracken made news last month when his first-in-the-state personal financial literacy graduation requirement was approved by his colleagues on the Mahopac School Board.

Lombardi has promised to make an official announcement regarding his candidacy after the first of the year.

Sayegh decided against seeking reelection because she wants to spend more time with family. “Three terms is enough for me. I decided to announce my intentions before the New Year to give my party time to prepare. Now is the time since the GOP will be interviewing new candidates in mid-January.”
