MONTGOMERY – According to the Regional Food Bank’s website, “100 percent of counties and congressional districts in the United States are home to people facing food insecurity. In the regional food bank’s 23-county service area, more than 355,000 people are food insecure.”

Food Bank CEO Tom Nardacci said they provided much support for those in need in 2025.

“”We’ve done more work. We’ve received more food from local Hudson Valley producers, farms, and retailers,” he said. “So things that we couldn’t do over the last two decades, over the last 10 months we’ve been able to do.” That was because they built a $25 million facility in Montgomery.

He said the budget cuts in Washington are creating a greater need for food, especially in these times of high cost.

“This year, we’re going to finish the year distributing about the same amount of food as we distributed last year, which is a tremendous accomplishment considering the fact that we had 200-plus tractors filled with food that were no-shows in the beginning because of cuts to the USDA.”

He said that none of their tasks could be accomplished if it weren’t for their 29,000 volunteers.

“Whether it’s corporate groups, church groups, youth groups, or just individuals who are retired, who want to go a couple of days a week and have something meaningful to contribute,” he said.
