CARMEL – Don’t be surprised to see snowplows owned by Putnam County clearing streets of frozen precipitation bearing new monikers.

` Thanks to the county’s school children, snow and ice removing equipment have been fitted with identifications in conjunction with Putnam’s initial snowplow naming contest.

The idea originated from county DPW chief Craig Moran who suggested the naming of four plows and a dozen sand trucks with names suggested by boys and girls.

After conferring with his boss, DPW Commissioner Thomas Feighery and County Executive Kevin Byrne, the contest was held and children at Putnam Valley Elementary School, Lakeview Elementary School and Fulmar Road Elementary School both in Mahopac and John F. Kennedy Elementary School in Brewster participated.

The winning names included “Darth Blader,” “Frosty,” “White Tiger” and Mr. 67.”
