WASHINGTON – Congressman Pat Ryan (D, NY-18) is putting the blame squarely on Republican leadership for killing an opportunity to extend healthcare benefits beyond the January 1 expiration.
A bipartisan group of members of the House of Representatives were lined up, ready to force a vote to extend healthcare benefits, until the session was called off, which infuriates Ryan, a Democrat from Gardiner.
“We got enough Republicans to agree with us to extend this, and instead of allowing a vote on it, the speaker of the House sent everybody home,” Ryan said. “And now we are going to have millions of Americans see their healthcare premiums skyrocket because Speaker Mike Johnson, and unfortunately, ultimately the president, despite saying they care about lowering costs, missed an opportunity to do that.”
Congress will not return until after the new year.
