CARMEL- Nicholas Dominguez was called a “model student” by officials at Putnam-Northern Westchester BOCES was presented with his Student of Distinction award at last week’s Carmel Board of Education meeting.
The resident of Carmel was recognized for his impressive progress by Superintendent Michael Plotkin who presented the seventh grader with a medal and a certificate to mark the occasion.
In addition to Dominguez’s progress in the classroom, BOCES Walden School Principal Kathryn White shared an anecdote about Nicholas’ good-hearted nature. On one occasion when a classmate was struggling, Dominguez helped to de-escalate the student with his kind words.
“Nick is a strong advocate, not only for himself, but for his classmates, and he does so respectfully and confidently,” said White adding: “He is the kind of student who lifts others up and makes the classroom a better place.”
The young man thanked BOCES for the recognition: “It was very nice that I received this and to hear that I had earned my place. I have made a lot of friends and have had a lot of accomplishments so far. I’m reading so much better too.”
