President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he’s endorsing Republican Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman for Governor in the 2026 election against Democratic Kathy Hochul.
The endorsement came just a day after another longtime Trump ally, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, announced she was suspending her candidacy.
“I am blessed and grateful to have the endorsement of President Donald J. Trump,” Blakeman said. “President Trump is driving down gasoline prices and slashing the cost of prescription drugs. Securing our borders has made America safer. President Trump loves New York, and we will be partners in making New York safe and affordable.”
President Trump wrote on TruthSocial on Saturday: “Highly Respected and very popular Nassau County Executive, Bruce Blakeman, is running to be the next Governor of New York.”
The Commander-in-Chief added that “Bruce is MAGA all the way and has been with me from the very beginning. Bruce Blakeman is a FANTASTIC guy, will win the big November Election and, without hesitation, has my Complete and Total Endorsement for Governor of the ONCE GREAT STATE OF NEW YORK (IT CAN BE GREAT AGAIN!). BRUCE BLAKEMAN WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!”
Earlier this week, a Siena poll released showed that Hochul had a 19-point lead over Stefanik in a hypothetical 2026 general election matchup and a 25-point lead over Blakeman, who won his bid for a second term as Nassau County executive by a wide margin in November. He previously served on the Hempstead Town Council and later held an appointed position as commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
Blakeman responded to the Siena poll by guaranteeing a win in next year’s election.
