PLEASANT VALLEY – Santa Claus, escorted by the New York State Police, Pleasant Valley Fire Department, and the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, delivered the best present of all time to four siblings, ages seven and under on Friday night.  The present was 11 months in the making.

Army Reservist Alexa Peterson deployed to the Middle East on January 3, 2025, and when she did, the construction engineer left behind her family, including her children Jackson, Colton, Declan, and Haidyn.  Cared for by family members, the kids have spent the last 11 months using FaceTime to see their mother.

When the Pleasant Valley Fire Department learned that Peterson was returning home, they teamed up with State Trooper Mike Peterson, the soldier’s brother, to have Santa and the fire department arrive at Peterson’s home so Santa could deliver a message from Peterson to her kids.  The message was followed by Santa’s elves, dressed as firefighters, delivering a misty-eyed Peterson to her children for hugs while friends, family, neighbors, and the entire fire department applauded the reunion.
