SOUTHEAST – A Dutchess County man was taken to Danbury Hospital Friday after losing control of his truck that was towing a woodchipper on Interstate 84 in Southeast, resulting in both overturning and blocking westbound traffic.
The crash took place near the Veterans Memorial Bridge that carries the highway over the Village of Brewster.
State Police Public Information Officer Trooper Krystal Paolicelli identified the driver of the truck as Johnny Ortiz-Arevalo, 40, of Hopewell Junction.
She said the driver lost control, he attempted to overcorrect, causing the vehicle to sway and slide, coming to rest in the center median.
Nine-one calls sent members of the Brewster Fire Department, Brewster Rescue Squad, an Empress Paramedic, Putnam Sheriff’s Department personnel and Brewster Village Police to the scene.
Traffic was snarled along the interstate for about an hour.
