Daniel Erceg.

SAUGERTIES – Saugerties Superintendent of Schools Dr. Daniel Erceg has resigned effective December 9, 2025. The district made the announcement on Wednesday, December 17, one week after the fact.

“The difficult decision reflects a shared recognition that the separation is the best way for the district and community to move forward following the recent events involving the arrest of a former staff member – it does not represent an accusation or admission or any wrongdoing by either party,” said School Board President Jeffrey Riozzi in a prepared statement.

He said both the board of education and Erceg “care deeply about the community and are committed to fostering healing and renewed trust.”

Erceg served as superintendent since June 28, 2023. Prior to that, he served as deputy superintendent, director of human resources, and assistant principal.

Dr. Gwendolyn Roraback will continue to serve as acting superintendent while the district searches for a permanent replacement.

Riozzi said the board “remains committed to transparency and will continue to share information it is legally able to disclose.
