GOSHEN – The Orange County Legislature will need a new chair in January as current Chairman Kevin Hines did not seek reelection in November.

Republicans will maintain the majority, although slimmer – 11 to 10 – over Democrats.

The incoming GOP members have been meeting with one person surfacing as the likely candidate for chair – Janet Sutherland of Otisville. But that will depend on all 11 members voting for her when the legislature reorganizes in January.

Should one or more members opted for someone else, Democrats could capture that leadership position by teaming up with the Republicans who back someone other than Sutherland.
