TUXEDO – For decades, the former Red Apple Rest on Old Route 17 in Tuxedo was a stop off point for residents of the Big Apple on their way to the Catskills.
The eatery, opened in 1931, was torn down in 2023.
Now, officials are exploring possible uses for the property that once held the iconic restaurant, said Orange County Economic Development Director Steven Gross.
“We have been meeting with the owners of the Red Apple Rest and officials in the Town of Tuxedo regarding the future of that historic site,” he said. “A developer is looking to redevelop that site and rebrand the Red Apple Rest name.”
Gross said discussions are in the exploratory stage.
