BREWSTER – Improvements marking the final phase of New York State Electric and Gas Company’s North Brewster Reinforcement Project have been completed.
NYSEG President Marc Geaumont made the announcement Tuesday noting that investments made at the utility’s Amenia substation as well as facilities in Pawling and Dover Plains will improve reliability and capacity.
“NYSEG is steadfast in its mission of not only providing reliable power to our customers but also giving our customers value. As upstate New York’s population and economy grow, it’s our job to ensure that we’re able to meet the new energy demands that are being placed on the grid—and that’s exactly what this project achieves,” Geaumont said.
The investments will help ensure that the growing energy demands of the area are met. The installation of a new transformer will reduce voltage levels to enable the efficient and safe transmission, distribution, and use of electricity. In addition to the capacity benefits, the new transformers will help enhance reliability for customers served directly by the substation and those in surrounding areas.
Geaumont said since 2023, NYSEG has invested more than $378 million in projects which help keep the power on in homes and businesses—investments which will reinforce the grid in the face of increasingly severe storms and prepare it for the needs of the future.
