TOWN OF SOUTHEAST – A 43-year-old Brewster woman was killed Tuesday in a head-on crash in Southeast.

Nine-one-one calls shortly after 7 a.m. sent members of the Putnam Sheriff’s Department, Brewster Fire Department, Brewster Rescue Squad and a Putnam Empress paramedic to the intersection of Dean’s Corners Road and Turk Hill Road.

Undersheriff James Menton said the crash occurred when a sedan driven by Jaclyn Hamill crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic and was struck by a large box truck.

EMS personnel attended to both drivers who were alone at the time. Hamill was pronounced dead while the truck driver was shaken but refused medical attention, Menton said.

Firefighters under the command of Chief Michael Miller cleared the scene some 45 minutes later but were summoned a second time around 10:45 a.m. to assist members of the sheriff’s department and a Putnam County Coroner with extrication since Hamill had been trapped in her demolished vehicle as a result of the crash.

Chief Miller said members of his department offered “our sincerest condolences to the Hamill family and loved ones of the young woman who perished.”
