HYDE PARK – A 28-year-old Hyde Park male was killed in a head-on collision with another vehicle on Route 9 in Hyde Park on Sunday afternoon.  The accident occurred around 4:20 p.m. on Route 9 near Huyler Drive, and both the deceased and the operator of the second vehicle needed to be extricated by emergency personnel.  Route 9 was closed for several hours while the emergency personnel conducted their operations.

The preliminary investigation, conducted by the Hyde Park Police Department and New York State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit, indicates that a Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling northbound on State Route 9 crossed over the double yellow center line and struck a 2010 Honda Accord that was traveling southbound, trapping both drivers.

The male killed in the crash was driving the Honda when he was struck by the pickup truck driven by a 46-year-old man from Kingston, who sustained serious injuries and was treated at a local hospital, according to Hyde Park Police Chief Robert Benson.

Chief Benson indicated that witnesses reported seeing the Ford F-150 cross into the southbound lane before striking the Honda Accord.

The chief indicated that the names of the victims would be released at a later time.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call the Hyde Park police at 845-229-9340.
