POUGHKEEPSIE – Snow began falling in Poughkeepsie around 9 p.m. Saturday, as predicted, and the first city DPW plow crew was ready to go to work and stay on duty until 9 a.m.    The tentative forecast is for approximately two inches of accumulation, with the heaviest snow falling around 2 a.m.  DPW Supervisor Stevie Antonucci said his first group of plow teams came in at 9 p.m. to begin loading seven of the bigger plow trucks with a salt and sand mixture, with one rig assigned to each of the seven plowing sections in the city.  Two smaller trucks were also prepped and ready to treat the smaller streets throughout the city that are inaccessible by the big trucks.

The Buildings and Grounds crew is assigned to remove snow from the police and fire departments, as well as city hall.

The Parks and Recreation workers are assigned to clean all of the municipal parking lots and the portions of the sidewalks maintained by the city.  As part of an agreement with New York State DOT, the Parks and Recreation crews will also treat ice and remove snow from the sidewalks along both the east and west arterials.
