TOWN OF NEWBURGH – The final vote count is in and Democrat/Working Families Party candidate Mary Lou Carolan defeated two-time incumbent Paul Ruggiero, Republican/Conservative, signaling what she said is “the beginning of a new era for the historically Republican leaning town.”
Carolan ran on a platform of bringing a fresh vision and voice to the council and providing community centered leadership focused on listening, transparency and collaboration for the town’s future. She also presented a new perspective for attracting and retaining small businesses, livable wages and employment, and exploring housing opportunities for all.
“There was an expressed desire by the voters I spoke with for a change,” Carolan said.
