KINGSTON – As the holiday season continues, Dr. Darrell Wheeler, president of SUNY New Paltz, reminded Ulster County business leaders Thursday, that the university is a good neighbor that always wants to enhance the regional economy.

“Look for opportunities that allow your company, your agency, your environment, to find collaboration because of the values of having a comprehensive university, in a region,” said Wheeler, “as we might be able to partner on things that you, yourself, can’t do within your enterprise. We have a school of business; we have an active consultation entity led by students.”

Wheeler, who was guest speaker at a breakfast sponsored by the Ulster County Regional Chamber of Commerce, noted, “Goodwill starts in your backyard. Goodwill has to be manifest through actions and deeds.”

Wheeler, who became SUNY New Paltz’s president in 2022, emphasized the university’s value to the community with reasonable tuition rates and a broad curriculum that includes sciences, liberal arts and business studies with students always willing to help regional enterprises.
