NEWBURGH – Sims Foster, the Sullivan County hospitality developer, has secured the financing and closed on the three buildings on Grand Street in the City of Newburgh so that he can begin the conversion of the former Masonic Temple, YMCA and American Legion buildings into a boutique hotel and restaurant.

He has been planning the development for five years and had to secure the financing for the $45.9 million project.

That was accomplished with the closing two weeks ago, said Mayor Torrance Harvey.

The mayor said the local workforce is already being prepared for jobs at the new facility.

“Sims Fosters’ boutique hotel hospitality is tied to the State University of New York at SUNY Orange Newburgh campus with their Food Tech program,” he said. “The Food Tech program has been up and running for a year-and-a-half, almost two years, and that was supposed to be a feeder for his restaurant and for his hotel.”

Most of the renovations will be interior and the project is expected to take about 16 months to complete.
