BREWSTER – An early morning crash Tuesday along Farm-to-Market Road and Foggintown Roads in the Town Southeast, resulting in downed utility poles and wires, led to widespread school delays and closures in the Brewster School District.

State Police said the crash took place around 4:45 a.m. when a 63-year-old Mahopac man lost control of his car and slammed into the infrastructure knocking out electricity, phone service and cable service to the entire area.

Due to the closure and traffic impacts, the Brewster School District announced schedule changes; however, when it became apparent that the situation would not be rectified in time for classes to begin, Superintendent Michelle Gosh informed families that the John F. Kennedy Elementary School, Brewster High School and the district’s on-campus Pre-K programs could not open.

The nearby Wells Middle School and C.V. Starr Intermediate School operated on a two-hour delay with all traffic entering the school’s campus off Route 312 due to the road closure.

Troopers said the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash was treated at Putnam Hospital Center for non-life-threatening injuries.
