POUGHKEEPSIE – The City of Poughkeepsie police, with the assistance of the US Marshal Service (USMS), have arrested two men in connection with an April 15, 2025, “shots fired” incident at 120 Hudson Avenue, the housing project known as “The Bricks”.
J’Aaron Wheeler, 21, and Daevon Vann, 20, both residents of the City of Poughkeepsie, are accused of firing guns at the complex and then discarding the weapons before fleeing from the scene around 6:15 p.m. on April 15.
The arrests were the result of an extensive investigation by city detectives, the US Marshal Service, and the Dutchess County DA’s Office, according to City of Poughkeepsie Detective Lieutenant Sean McCarthy.
On October 10, 2025, the U.S. Marshals Service NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force conducted an enforcement operation in Fishkill, during which Wheeler was taken into custody. At that time, investigators believed that Daevon Vann had fled the area. Wheeler was arraigned on a charge of criminal possession of a weapon in Dutchess County Court and is currently being held at Dutchess County Jail on $75,000 cash, $150,00 bond, $800,000 partially secured bond.
Subsequent investigative leads suggested that Vann had returned to the area and was possibly staying with his brother, Kenneth Vann Jr., who was also wanted in connection with a shots-fired incident that occurred in Kingston on September 5, 2025.
Based on information indicating that both subjects were together, a coordinated enforcement operation was conducted involving teams from both the Northern and Southern Districts of the U.S. Marshals Service NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force. On Monday, December 8, 2025, the USMS located and arrested Kenneth Vann Jr. at 108 Vineyard Avenue, Apt. 2. in Highland in Ulster County.
Investigators then learned that Daevon Vann was at 17 Morton Street, Apt. 2, in the City of Poughkeepsie, where he was taken into custody.
Daevon Vann was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment. He was arraigned in Dutchess County Court, and bail was set at $250,000 cash, $500,000 bond, or a partially secured $1 million bond.
The investigation remains active. Anyone with information regarding this case, or any other matter, is urged to contact the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department’s confidential tip line at (845) 451-7577.
